Marvin J. Stone, MD, founded the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center in 1976 and directed it for more than 30 years. When he retired in July 2013, a reception was held in his honor (Figure 1), and a sample of tributes given at the event and submitted afterwards are reprinted below. Marvin Stone was born in Columbus, Ohio, on August 3, 1937. He grew up in Bexley, Ohio, where he attended public schools. After premedical studies at Ohio State University (1955 to 1958), he went to the University of Chicago School of Medicine (1958 to 1963).
